Who We Are

We're a venture building partner for social impact organisations.

We believe that strong missions deserve strong foundations. We work alongside founders and leaders of social impact organisations to build sustainable, well-resourced ventures. Our role is to bring the right mix of strategy, systems, and execution at each stage of growth, focusing not on short-term wins, but on building ventures that last.

Shaped by experience across the social sector, startups, and finance, we know when to be ambitious, when to be cautious, and how to navigate trade-offs with integrity.

Above all, we bring belief in your work—and the capability to support it with structure, rigour, and care.

At present, Goodside Ventures is a single-operator outfit, but hey—we're just getting started. Thank you for being here at the inception of our journey!

Why We Exist

We propel social impact ventures to a state of strength.

Social impact ventures tend to start out with only a fraction of the resources they actually need. To reach a state of strength and stability, they need to leap across a resource gap that requires an inordinate amount of momentum. We call this crossing the chasm.

Crossing the chasm is daunting, especially when navigating unfamiliar situations. We generate the momentum by bringing the firepower needed—bandwidth, headspace, experience, social capital, relentless focus, and some steady company—so that social impact ventures can get to the other side. The good side.

Let's enjoy the ride, together.

Venture Builder

Kai has been building ventures for the past 11 years. He first stumbled into it as a co-founder of a pet bakery business, while completing a degree in accountancy.

Four years and a health episode later, the realisation that life is fleeting led him to dedicate his remaining time to social impact work. Since then, he has built Groundup Central (now BAGUS Together) under the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), taken on a Chief of Staff role at a VC-backed edtech startup, and led a social enterprise that helped kids develop soft skills through learning how to code.

His most recent (ad)venture was building The Foundry by The Majurity Trust, a social impact hub housing a community of social impact organisations.

The ventures that Kai has worked on have gone on to collectively raise over $15m. Along the way, he has also managed budgets of up to $5m.

A constant in his venture building journey thus far has been the privilege of working alongside amazing teammates, without whom none of the above would have been possible. Understanding this has been fundamental to the team-centric philosophy of Goodside Ventures.

In his free time, Kai is a belly-rub slave to Juju the dog. He also volunteers as a tennis hitting partner with blind/low-vision players and kids on the autism spectrum.

Kai currently lives in Auckland, New Zealand, though his heart remains attached to Singapore-based causes.
